What Are Smart Triggers?
Smart triggers are a hardware modification that reduces the travel distance of your L2/R2 triggers. Instead of pressing a trigger all the way down to register input, smart triggers activate at a fraction of the distance — giving you a measurable speed advantage in competitive gaming.
Standard Triggers: The Default Experience
Standard triggers on both the DualSense and DualShock 4 have a full analog range of motion. This is great for driving games, where you need precise throttle control, but in shooters, that extra travel distance is wasted time.

Smart Triggers: The Competitive Edge
With smart triggers installed, your fire and aim inputs register almost instantly. We're talking about shaving 50-100ms off every trigger pull. In a fast-paced FPS, that's the difference between winning and losing a gunfight.
When Smart Triggers Are Worth It
The Numbers
| Feature | Standard | Smart Triggers |
|---|---|---|
| Travel distance | ~12mm | ~2mm |
| Activation time | ~120ms | ~30ms |
| Analog range | Full | On/Off (digital) |
| Best for | Racing, SP | FPS, Competitive |
Our Recommendation
If you play competitive shooters more than 50% of the time, smart triggers are a no-brainer upgrade. At just $15 added to your build, it's the single best performance-per-dollar mod we offer.
For racing game enthusiasts or players who value the adaptive trigger features on PS5, stick with standard — or better yet, build two controllers.
